End of an Era: How Two Developers Shaped (and Shook) Our City

This month, our city quietly turned a page in its history—and most people didn’t even notice. Two of our region’s largest developers, Moen Group and a prominent suburban homebuilder, both entered a period of uncertainty in what marks the largest shake-up we’ve seen in decades.

While it’s easy to focus on the fallout, it’s worth stepping back to appreciate how much of the city we know today was shaped by their bold visions—from the towering skyline that brought new life to downtown, to the affordable neighborhoods that gave hundreds of families their first taste of homeownership. Their legacies are built into the streets we drive, the parks we walk, and the homes we live in.

And now, the next chapter begins. We owe a lot to the developers who built the city we love—both for the dreams they realized and the lessons they leave behind.

Legacy and Lessons: How Two Visions Built a City

Moen Group bet big on downtown—and won. Their luxury high-rises changed the way we think about city living: walkable neighborhoods, mixed-use hubs, residential housing in a city district. They made vertical living aspirational in a market that once saw it as a niche of commercial businesses and student housing.

Meanwhile, another key player focused on a different dream: attainable homes for a growing suburban footprint. Their efforts emphasized affordable builds, energy efficiency, and creating a bridge for first-time buyers into homeownership—laying the groundwork for the neighborhoods many families call home today.

Two wildly different visions. One shared outcome: a city with more options than ever before.

The lesson? In real estate, success isn’t always about winning forever. It’s about making your mark—and moving the market forward.
